Wallpaper* magazine commissioned Barber & Osgerby to take part in a far-reaching and experimental exhibition called Handmade during the Salone del Mobile 2010 in Milan. Their idea was to ask designers and craftsmen to reappraise an everyday object and create a one–off, handcrafted piece to be exhibited in Milan. The familiar indoor watering can spends much of its time sitting, unused, on the windowsill and as a form it has been changed very little in recent times. It seemed like the perfect object to rethink. The Watering Can designed by Barber & Osgerby was handmade in stainless steel by British craftsmen. The welds were polished out, the exterior sprayed bright orange, and the interior polished to a mirror finish. An oversized funnel helps with filling and can also be used as a handle.
